• The Ellis Island Wedding of Victoria and Mike

We love it when our wedding couples add an element of surprise to their Ellis Island weddings, and Victoria and Mike elevated the art of the wedding surprise to new levels by keeping their wedding location a surprise! Their 167 wedding guests were invited to the Ritz Carlton at Battery Party City for a champagne toast and hors d’oeuvres…and then all guests were surprised with a walk to the ferry for their cruise past the NYC skyline to Victoria and Mike’s wedding celebration. (Wedding guests were invited to wear fascinators and bow ties to this fun and festive wedding!)

    {We thank Brian Dorsey Studios ( www.briandorseystudios.com ) for sharing these gorgeous images with us!}

Upon docking at Ellis Island, the guests were greeted on Ellis Island by a live performance by The Whiffenpoofs.

The couple’s wedding planner Jeannie Uyanik, executive director of C&G New York LLC ( http://candgweddings.com ) shares some highlights of Victoria and Mike’s wedding day:

“The escort card table was built out of old fashioned trunks, and the escort ‘cards’ were Swiss cow bells – which were given out before the ceremony so that they could be rung as the couple kissed for the first time as husband and wife.”

The Whiffenpoofs performed the Processional song, “Nature Boy.”

Newlyweds Victoria and Mike were introduced into the Ellis Island Registry Room to the song ‘Now That We’ve Found Love’ by Heavy D and Boyz.

Victoria and Mike danced their first dance to the song ‘Just a Kiss’ by Lady Antebellum.

Guests dined on the fabulous fare provided by Dellos Catering New York ( www.dellos-catering.com ) during the reception.

And then…another surprise! “The groomsmen serenaded the bride with a song (a fraternity tradition) and presented a rose as a very special and personalized part of the wedding celebration,” says Uyanik.

And the final song of the night was “You Got the Love,” by Florence and the Machine. This lovely wedding couple filled Ellis Island with wonderful, celebratory music and the laughter, smiles and traditions of their friends and family, and we wish them every happiness!

While on this fun and festive NYC ferry ride to your wedding, guests can be treated to delectable hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and champagne, and you can even arrange for live entertainment during this unforgettable start to your unforgettable wedding day!

Here are some top Q&As about ferry rides to and from your Ellis Island Wedding or Liberty Island wedding:

What is the ferry’s name? Actually, there are seven different NYC ferries that can serve as your stylish and exciting wedding day ‘ride,’ including Miss Liberty, Miss New York, Miss New Jersey and others.

What is the ferry’s capacity to suit my wedding guest list? We have 400-, 600- and 800-passenger boats, which is more than enough space for most wedding guests to all board the same boat and enjoy the ferry ride to Ellis Island or Liberty Island together. If you have an extremely large wedding guest list or corporate event guest list, you can arrange for your guests to take separate ferries.

How long is the ferry ride to the island? The ferry ride is 8 minutes long to get to the island, 15 minutes if you include a sail by the Statue of Liberty, which you can arrange ahead of time for a very special experience for your wedding guests.

Cocktails In Wedding at-Ellis Island NYC

Is it possible to arrange for cocktails and catering on the ferry? Yes, just contact Patti Golden at pgolden@thestatueofliberty.com for more information on arranging these special services during your NYC ferry ride to your wedding on Ellis Island or Liberty Island.

Is it possible to arrange live entertainment on the ferry? Yes, live entertainment is allowed on the ferry – again, just contact Patti Golden at pgolden@thestatueofliberty.com – for details, or you may wish to provide music during your wedding ferry rides via a sound system on the ferry.

Is it possible to decorate the ferry, such as with strings of lights? While it is possible to set up some décor, most wedding couples find that the ferries themselves are so wonderful, and the NYC skyline scenery so beautiful, that extra décor is not necessary.

When your ferry docks on Ellis Island or Liberty Island, you can arrange for servers to greet your guests with trays of champagne or your signature wedding cocktails, as well as trays of hors d’oeuvres as an indulgent and exciting start to your wedding day celebration on our islands.
